Last destination: Iceland

Tag 140-142 

Das beste kommt zum Schluss. So wandern wir heute bei strahlendem Sonnenschein zu zweit durch die traumhafte isländische Landschaft einen kalten Vulkan hoch, wo nach anderthalb Stunden Aufstieg das Ziel hält, was es verspricht – baden in einem heißen Fluss. 

Wir blicken in die Berge, genießen Sonne und heißes Wasser dass uns umströmt, und schauen voller Dankbarkeit zurück. Es war eine unglaublich reiche, intensive Zeit voller Erlebnisse, 13 Länder, fast fünf Monate, mit acht Menschen. Gestern saßen wir noch nach einem heißen Bad in einer alten Schafbadeanstalt mit heißem Wasser zum Abschiedsessen in einer isländischen Pizzeria und fragten in die Runde: was waren eure Lieblingsländer? Was würdet ihr nicht noch einmal so machen? Neuseeland und New  York waren ganz hoch auf der Liste, aber auch Indien bei Velis und Morpheus, Vietnam bei Nadine, Japan und Hawaii bei Inyan. Die beste Wohnung war die letzte hier in Island. 

Ja, Island – es hat uns wirklich in den Bann gezogen. Nur noch dreieinhalb Flugstunden von zu Hause entfernt, und doch eine Landschaft, die uns ein Patagonien, Neuseeland, aber auch in Europa erinnert. In den drei Tagen haben wir viel gesehen, die klassischen Highlights des Golden Circle mit dem Pingvellir National Park,  wo die Kontinentalplatten von Amerika und Eurasien auseinander driften, dem Geysir in Geysir und dem Gulfoss Wasserfall. Alle drei wirklich spektakuläre Natur-Schauspiele. Und wir hatten ein Riesenglück, es war drei Tage lang sonnig. 

Die Einsamkeit der kargen Landschaft, das tiefblaue Wasser der Flüsse und Seen, die schneebedeckten Vulkangipfel und der Gletscher am Horizont sind einfach wunderschön. 

Alle freuen sich nun riesig auf die Heimat, und morgen um 2:45 Uhr klingelt der Wecker – um 13.10Uhr landen wir wieder in Berlin.

Day 140-142 

The best is saved for last. So today we hike together through the beautiful Icelandic landscape up a cold volcano in bright sunshine, where after an hour and a half ascent the destination lives up to its promise – bathing in a hot river. 

We look into the mountains, enjoy the sun and the hot water that flows around us, and look back with gratitude. It was an incredibly rich, intense time full of experiences, 13 countries, almost five months, with eight people. Yesterday, after a hot bath in an old sheep bath with hot water, we sat in an Icelandic pizzeria for a farewell dinner and asked the group: what were your favorite countries? What would you not do again? New Zealand and New York were high on the list, but also India for Velis and Morpheus, Vietnam for Nadine, Japan and Hawaii for Inyan. The best apartment was the last one here in Iceland. 

Yes, Iceland – it really cast a spell over us. Only a three and a half hour flight from home, and yet a landscape that reminded us of Patagonia, New Zealand and Europe. We saw a lot in the three days, the classic highlights of the Golden Circle with Pingvellir National Park, where the continental plates of America and Eurasia are drifting apart, the geyser in Geysir and the Gulfoss waterfall. All three truly spectacular natural spectacles. And we were very lucky, it was sunny for three days. 

The solitude of the barren landscape, the deep blue water of the rivers and lakes, the snow-covered volcanic peaks and the glacier on the horizon are simply beautiful. 

Everyone is now really looking forward to getting home, and tomorrow at 2.45am the alarm clock rings – we land back in Berlin at 1.10pm.
